IKEA Bewildered Painting Series (2024)
A series of paintings depicting furnished interiors of the vacation cabins on the remote nature reserve island Marker Wadden. The cabins are located on artificially made island designed to look and function as wild, however the interiors entirely furnished with IKEA products. The series explores the dissonance between commercial mass production of interior space and mass production of wild space. The paintings are sourced from images of the cabins advertised online for rental, and they are rendered in a dream like state, there is a feeling of fantasy, isolation and climate estrangement. At the same time, it touches upon the complex themes of control of our natural environment, commercialization of nature and consumption of landscape.
